FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
DO YOU HAVE AVAILABILITY?
Our online calendar has up-to-date availability.
DO YOU ACCEPT CHILDREN?
We accept babes-in-arms and children aged over eight. There are various risks at the cottage, including a stove and breakables at low level that make the cottage unsuitable for young children.
IS THERE ROOM FOR A COT?
Yes, in either bedroom, or on the landing at a squeeze. We provide a travel cot and bedding free of charge.
WHAT TIME IS CHECK-IN AND CHECK-OUT?
Check-in is from 4.30pm. Check-out is by 10.30am. Unfortunately we can’t offer early check-in or late check-outs as we need the full day to prepare the cottage, but if you arrive early, you’re welcome to use the facilities at Bovey Castle. Please let us know if you wish to do this and we will make arrangements for you. Our village pub is a lovely place for a drink or lunch, or you could have a stroll along the river at the bottom of the village.
HOW DO I GET ACCESS?
The keys will be left in a key safe for you outside the property. We’ll send you the code and full directions before you arrive.
HOW DOES THE BOVEY CASTLE PASS WORK?
Simply turn up and ask reception for a day pass to use the pool and gym. The cost is £30 per day per person and there’s no need to book. The castle is a 15-minute walk through the woods from North Bovey, or a five-minute drive. You can also book spa treatments, meals and activities separately. Best book these well in advance.
WHAT DO YOU RECOMMEND WE DO DURING OUR STAY?
> See our guide to our favourite things to do in Dartmoor and Devon.
WHAT SHOULD WE BOOK AHEAD OF OUR ARRIVAL?
Spa treatments or golf at Bovey Castle, dinner at Gidleigh Park, dinner at peak times at The Horse in Moretonhampstead and at the Ring of Bells in our village.

- If you wish to take the slippers home with you, we’ll deduct £20 per pair from your deposit.
HOW DO PAYMENTS WORK?
Your balance will be due two months prior to your arrival. We will send you an invoice for this near the time. A £300 damage deposit will be held against your card before you arrive. This will be refunded to you within a week of your departure (usually earlier). We accept bank transfers, debit and credit cards, and Paypal, but there’s a 2.8% commission fee on all card payments, other than the damage deposit.
CAN I ADD EXTRAS AFTER I BOOK?
Yes, we just need three days’ notice to add extras.
DO YOU ACCEPT PETS?
Yes, we accept one small, non-shedding dog for a charge of £60. Please read our Pet Promise before you book.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL OR CHANGE MY DATES?
Once made, payments are not refundable and booking dates cannot be changed, so we suggest you take out travel insurance to cover for unexpected problems. However, if we manage to fill your reservation, or part of your reservation, we will refund you the difference. The booking deposit is not refundable. Please give us as much notice as possible if you need to cancel. Our terms and conditions have full details.

Mobile reception is patchy in our village and across Dartmoor, but you can set up Wi-FI calling through our internet. There is a landline phone in case of emergencies.

WHERE CAN I DO MY FOOD SHOPPING?
Our favourite place to food shop locally is Chagford, which has a lovely deli, village dairy, wine merchants, butchers, fruit and vegetable shop and organic grocery store. Our neighbour sells delicious Dartmoor wildflower honey and fresh eggs from an honesty box on his doorstep (his house is directly opposite the cottage's garden). In Moretonhampstead, there’s a fantastic Zero Waste Shop stocking organic pastas, grains, cereals, chocolates, herbs and spices and other kitchen staples. For more information, check out our blog on Devon’s best indie food shops. There’s a big Sainsbury's off the A30 at Exeter (Alphington Rd - EX2 8NH).
CAN I ORDER A FOOD DELIVERY?
Yes, Waitrose, Tesco and Sainsburys deliver to the village.
IS THERE MOBILE PHONE SIGNAL?
There is very patchy mobile reception in the village and on the high moor, but Wi-Fi calling is available at the cottage and there's a landline phone with a honesty box for calls. The wi-fi password is milk1sugar.
